Seekonk Scouts April Activities

Posted

Seekonk Troop 1 and Troop 9 Scouts recently enjoyed a weekend camping trip to Camp Yawgoog in Rockville, Rhode Island. Scouts spent the weekend at Camp Yawgoog’s Hidden Lake campsite, which required a short 15-minute hike with all of their equipment as Hidden Lake is only accessible by foot. Scouts played a scavenger hunt game, relaxed by the lake and campfires, hiked, and had the opportunity to practice first aid skills. Scouts also worked on rank advancements and basic camping skills.

Several Troop 1 Scouts are working on completing their cycling merit badge. The Scouts are learning mountain biking and began with a seven-mile ride on the East Bay Bike path and 16 mile ride on the Blackstone Valley Bike path in Lincoln, RI. Scouts are planning additional bike trips to Cape Cod. Troop 1 and Troop 9 Scouts began their Horsemanship Merit Badge. Scouts were introduced to horseback riding at Epona Equine Eventing in Seekonk, MA. Seekonk Scouts continue to work on earning merit badges including cooking, swimming, and camping.

This month two Troop 9 Scouts were recognized for reaching the rank of Eagle. Eagle Scout is the highest scout rank and obtained by only 5% of all scouts.
