Seekonk Lions End Another Lionistic Year

Posted

The summer is here, and once again, the Seekonk Lions have put another lionistic year behind us. This is my second year of a five-year commitment (which you can find posted on our website), and honestly, it hasn't been the easiest year to say the least. We've faced the loss of long-time members, members battling illness, the cancellation of the Taste of the Town, and changes in our dinner venue…all of which made for a challenging and sometimes disappointing year.

I've learned that some things are within our control, and others are not. That lesson has been a big part of this year’s journey. I take pride in knowing that our district has seen a significant increase in membership, thanks in large part to the hard work of our District Governor. Unfortunately, we also saw other clubs in our area fold.

Despite these challenges, our club achieved a record in donations this year, and I couldn't be proud of what we've accomplished together. But we also recognize the need for new blood to come into the club to keep our mission alive and thriving.

With that in mind, I’m excited to serve as president for another year. And to kick off the 2026/2027 lionistic year, the Seekonk Lions Club is proud to announce our first and hopefully, annual Oldies Car Show this September.

On Saturday, September 13, 2026, we invite you to step back in time at our Oldies Car Show. Imagine rows of shining classic cars and trucks, each with its own story to tell, parked at the Newman YMCA on Taunton Ave. The air will be filled with the lively sounds of Bodee’s music, creating the perfect backdrop for a day of fun, community, and nostalgia.

Whether you bring your vintage ride or just come to enjoy the atmosphere, there’s something for everyone. Entry is just $20 per car, or $10 if you bring a non-perishable food item—donations that will go directly to the Doorways Seekonk Food Pantry to support neighbors in need. Families are welcome to join for $10, or just $5 with a donation.

Prizes will be awarded for the best in show pre-1660 vehicle and the best truck post-1960 vehicle. And if you have old glasses to donate, we’d love to take them off your hands to help someone see clearly.

Come be part of our inaugural event! Show off your ride, enjoy great music, and support a wonderful cause right here in Seekonk. We look forward to seeing you there!

Paul
