Seekonk Approves Tax Increase

A tax increase to pay for the town’s share of constructing the new Tri County Regional Vocational High School was approved Monday.

The required town contribution is $1 million over a 30 year period. The debt assessment is $635,000.

Voters from 11 communities across three counties approved funding construction of the $286 million project in October 2023.

The regional school district is composed of Franklin, Medfield, Medway, Millis, Norfolk, North Attleboro, Plainville, Sherborn, Walpole, and Wrentham. rejected by Seekonk voters.

1, 562 voters, representing 12.47 percent of the town’s eligible voters, cast ballots.

The ballot measure passed with 789 yes votes and 723 no votes. 

Last month, Town Administrator Shawn Cadime warned the Select Board of “significant” impacts on the town budget if the debt exclusion for Tri County was defeated.

“Services and requests for services continue to go up,” Cadime explained.

Emily Field and Bob Gerardi were elected to fill two open seats on the Seekonk School Committee. Field has been serving on the committee since 2022. Gerardi is a former School Superintendent.

Gerardi won 1,067 votes, Field won 853, and Michael Novinson won 757.

Gerardi said he was “honored” to win so much support.

Field was “excited” to continue working on the school committee.

A number of other races were uncontested.

Gary Sagar will now be serving a three year term on the Select Board. Sagar previously served one term on the board.

Nelson Almeida ran unopposed for a three year seat on the Board of Assessors.

Ann Caldwell, Michael Durkay, and Alyssa Richard ran unopposed for three seats on the Library Board of Trustees. The terms are three years each.

Jo-Ann Perry won a five year seat on the Planning Board.

Dawn Dyer won a three year seat on the Water Commission.
