Elmasian Appointed to Medeiros Farm Committee

The Seekonk Select Board appointed Elizabeth Elmasian to serve as their representative on the Medeiros Farm Committee Wednesday.

The vote was 4-1. Chair Gary Sagar, Robert Archambault, Michael Healy, and Elmasian were in favor, with Chris Zorra opposed.

Justin Sullivan, who had been serving as the board’s representative, was given notice that he was being removed. Sullivan hasn’t been a member of the board for over a year, but was allowed to stay on the Medeiros Farm Committee.

“I think Mr. Sullivan has done a tremendous job on that committee,” Zorra said. “He’s helped that committee move right along. I would hate to see him go because he’s put a lot of time and effort into that board.”

“I’m not looking to change anything,” Elmasian said. “(The project) hasn’t gone before (the) Zoning (Board) yet. That’s my only issue at this point. I’m just looking to find out what’s going on. I don’t have an agenda.”

At the May 2023 Town Meeting, $150,000 was appropriated from the Community Preservation Fund to hire a consultant to develop a master plan for the Medeiros Farm at Elm Street and Lincoln Street. A seven member committee was appointed to oversee the project. David Sullivan is the Chairman. Sullivan also serves as Chairman of the town’s Planning Board. The other members all represent other town committees.

The Medeiros Farm Recreation and Park Master Plan outlined four objectives: active recreation, passive recreation, historic preservation, and a Community Park.

Residents from Elm Street and Lincoln Street expressed their opposition to having soccer fields in their neighborhood. They cited traffic and safety concerns.
