Elias Kaba from Seekonk collected a bronze medal in Division II Men’s Epee at the latest North American Cup (NAC) fencing tournament held March 6-9, 2026, in Cleveland, OH. The March NAC was sixth in a series of major, national events organized for specific age groups and ability levels. Division II in fencing requires participants to hold a national rating of “C” or under; ratings range from “A” at the highest to “E.” Other competitive categories at the NAC included events for fencers aged fourteen, twelve, or ten years old and under.
Elias showed both skill and determination in reaching his 3rd place victory. He defeated all opponents in the pool round and emerged first out of 180 fencers going into direct elimination. His first two victorious DE bouts were quite competitive with scores of fifteen to twelve and, a close one, fifteen to fourteen. Elias’ next three DE’s were much more comfortable with winning scores of thirteen to five, fourteen to six, and fifteen to six. In the semifinal round, he met the eventual event gold medalist and missed advancing to the gold medal bout by a single point.
Elias has accumulated other top three medals in competitions this season—a gold in October at a Junior Olympic qualifier and a silver 2nd place medal at a Regional Youth Circuit event in December. He earned a “B” rating with a top 16 victory in February at the classic Beanpot Open sponsored, unsurprisingly, by Boston Fencing Club. Elias was still eligible for Division II competition at the NAC as he held a “C” in January when the registration period ended for Cleveland.
Elias trains at East Providence facility of the Rhode Island Fencing Academy & Club and leads the youth epee team with his record of accomplishments.
