Spot the International Space Station
Starting Wednesday, April 7
Did you know that the International Space Station regularly flies over Seekonk? It's true! And if you know when to look up in the sky, you can see it with just your eyes. Kids and families with children ages 6+ are invited to learn more about the International Space Station with an International Space Station book to check out, a template and instructions to make a model of the space station (this is self guided, 'at home' activity) and information on how we can all plan to "spot the station" at the same time from our own backyards or perhaps together in the Meadows with social distancing. Now is a great time to learn more about the International Space Station because NASA's Space-X Crew 2 will be launching 4 astronauts to the ISS in April (exact date TBA) AND the 4 astronauts from NASA Space X Crew 1 will return to earth (splashdown!) in late April or early May. Did you know that the International Space Station is the third brightest object in the sky, looks like a fast-moving plane only much higher and travels 17,500 miles per hour which is 5 miles PER SECOND? Learn more about the International Space Station and let's "Spot the Station"! Register and receive the book, template, and instructions for making the model will be available for pick up starting Wednesday, April 7. Dates and times for spotting the station will be announced after that date.

Minecraft for Education Club
Tuesdays at 6:30PM starting April 27
Children in grades 3-5 are invited to enter into an adventure with Minecraft Education. We will explore as we create and build fantastic new worlds together in Minecraft Education. We will be following unique lesson plans and learning along the way. Minecraft Education Edition varies a bit from the traditional Minecraft platform in that we will be utilizing lesson plans and options that are not available in the traditional Minecraft edition. No Minecraft experience or personal membership required. We'll be learning about ancient worlds, pollinators, poems, and more. Participants must register, have their own device and have a free Zoom account. Registrants must also commit to the 4 session dates and agree to follow the online/virtual behavioral guidelines to be set out by the instructor. Meets April 27, May 4, May 11 and May 18.

Community Circle Art Project for Families
Wednesday, April 28, 5 PM
Families are invited to participate in a unique, relaxing program that combines art with a sense of community. Using the simple shape of a circle and basic drawing supplies, participants will create art that reflects their thoughts or feelings. While drawing, participants will have the opportunity to talk about common bonds and the desire for good in our lives, our community and the world. Participants will be lead step-by-step by local artist and Community Circle Project founder, Sandy Coleman. At the end of the program, everyone will be invited to take a photo of their completed circle to be exhibited on the Community Circle Project website. The program will be held virtually via Zoom and is open to families with children of all ages. No experience is necessary to participate, just a desire to draw, create and build a sense of community through art. A separate event for adults will be held at 6:30 pm. Seekonk Library will supply a kit that includes 3 circle templates, plain white paper (8 x 10), pencil and eraser. provide black permanent marker (ex: Sharpie), colored markers or pencils and good will toward others. Supplies provided by the library may be picked up starting April 14. The Zoom invite link will be sent to registrants approximately 1 hour before the event's start time. Funded by the Seekonk Cultural Council and hosted by Seekonk Public Library. Sandy Coleman has taught art classes at the Attleboro Arts Museum for five years. Her acrylic paintings and mixed-media collage works reflect her fascination with torn paper used as 'paint.' Sandy’s creations have been featured on HGTV, in Oprah magazine, and in exhibitions at colleges, museums and galleries in the Boston and Providence area. “Change happens in big and small ways and each of us can play a role in that through the power of art for relaxation, reflection and reflection.”

SCHOOL VACATION WEEK SPECIALS
Learn to Hand Sew: Donut Project
Tuesday, April 20 at 11 AM
In this live sewing demonstration, kids ages 8+ will watch sewing teacher Ellen Brown teach everyone how to make a decorative, felt donut. She will teach the basic running stitch as well as how to thread a needle, tie a knot, sew on a button, stuff the donut and sew it closed. During the demonstration, everyone will have the opportunity to watch and ask questions. When the demonstration is over, kids will use a kit of materials to work at their own pace to make a donut using the skills taught in the workshop. A video of Ellen's live demonstration will be available for kids to refer to so they can review the sewing skills that were covered. Sewing is a life skill and when kids learn how to sew they can repair a seam, sew a button on, even make projects such as pillows or simple paneled curtains...all with basic sewing skills and the simple running stitch! Register for the program and a Zoom link will be sent one hour prior to the start time of the live program. A materials kit that includes supplies to make the donut will be reserved for all registrants and should be picked up in the days prior to the event. Taught by Ellen Brown, sewing teacher, author and owner of Sew It Workshop Sewing Studio.
