Seekonk Deputy Superintendent Contract

Rebecca Kidwell has been serving as the Deputy Superintendent of Seekonk Public Schools.

Kidwell was appointed to replace outgoing Superintendent Rich Drolet at the May 22 school committee meeting in a 3 to 2 vote. Chairperson Meaghan Mahoney, Vice-Chair Kim Sluter, and Emily Field were in favor, with Noah Escaler and Kyle Juckett in opposition.

Drolet, whose last day is June 30, is going to be Superintendent for the King Philip Regional School District.

“Employees are entitled to vacation time and administrators typically use our vacation time when school is not in session,” Drolet said Tuesday. “I have been told that Ms. Kidwell will have a new contract which begins July 1 and then she will be the permanent new superintendent in Seekonk. She and I met for a couple days last week and also the week before as well to plan the transition and she is now in for some time this week on her own as “Deputy Superintendent.”

Kidwell had recently served as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment & Professional Development of Rockland Public Schools. Kidwell previously served as Director of Technology and Accountability, K – 12, for Braintree Public Schools.

According to the contract obtained by the Reporter, from June 22 through June 28, Kidwell will be paid at the per diem rate of $651.34 per day.

The contract says: “Miss Rebecca Kidwell, as Deputy Superintendent, shall serve as the Acting Superintendent of the Seekonk Public School district, when the Superintendent is on vacation or personal days. The Deputy Superintendent will be responsible for the administration and planning of concerns, projects, decisions, and matters for the 2023-2024 school year. The Deputy Superintendent has delegated authority to sign all documents that require execution by the Superintendent or require the Superintendent’s attention. The Deputy Superintendent shall use her best efforts to effectively manage and assist in the running of the school system.”

The contract was signed by members of the school committee on June 7.
