Seekonk – Raymond C. Stebenne, 98, passed away on Thursday, February 10, 2022. He was the beloved husband of the late Irene (Fitzmaurice) Stebenne. Born in Pawtucket, RI, Raymond resided in Seekonk from the age of five, and was the son of the late Charles and Yvonne M. (Gelinas) Stebenne.

Ray was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. In 1951, he founded Stebenne Paint & Wallpaper in Pawtucket. Ray retired in 1989. Ray enjoyed spending time on Block Island and Cape Cod and boating in and around Narragansett Bay in a boat he named the “Black Goose,” (the Wampanoag translation of Seekonk). He was also an avid golfer and honorary lifetime member of the Pawtucket Country Club. Ray was a universally admired and well-respected member of the community and for over forty years, was deeply involved in politics in the Town of Seekonk – serving as President of the Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Board of Selectmen during that time. He will be remembered for his local and national public service, his generosity, and his unfailing sense of humor and quick wit.

Ray leaves two daughters, Donna J. Larkin of Seekonk, Deborah J. Stebenne and her husband, Thomas Riley of Seekonk; a son, David R. Stebenne and his wife, Deneen, of Warren, RI and Madison, NH; six grandchildren, Karen “Kay,” Raymond, Erinn, Kate, Jamie, and Lindsey; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was the father-in-law of the late Gerard F. Larkin and the brother of the late Jean Pappas.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 9 a.m. from WILLIAM W. TRIPP Funeral Home, 1008 Newport Ave., Pawtucket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Parish, Coyle Drive, Seekonk. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Seekonk Cemetery. VISITATION will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to Friends of Seekonk Veterans Memorial, P.O.
