Nuisance Dog Hearing in Seekonk

The Board of Selectmen declared a dog owned by Doug Brown to be a nuisance at a hearing held Wednesday.

Brown, who ran unsuccessfully for the board in last April’s election, lives at 70 Brookfield Street.

After hearing complaints from residents, selectmen gave Brown 60 days to install a six foot fence on his property to prevent his dog from harassing residents and their pets in the neighborhood. Seekonk requires dog owners to keep their pets on a leash.

Chairman Justin Sullivan told Brown his dog needed to complete obedience training. Upon the conclusion of the training, the certificate is to be presented to the Animal Control Officer.

“Once that is completed, you can walk your dog around the neighborhood,” Sullivan said. “It does not need a muzzle. In the meantime, until all this is completed, your dog needs to be restrained and kept within your home.”

When Brown asked if he could put the dog up for adoption, Selectman David Andrade said it would have to be done outside of Seekonk.
