“Explore the Woonasquatucket” Recreation Series: Upcoming Spring Hikes in the Woonasquatucket Watershed
Providence – The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC) invites you to join them for two upcoming spring hikes! These activities are part of the WRWC’s “Explore the Woonasquatucket'' Recreation Series, which offers year-round tours of beautiful and historic sites throughout the Woonasquatucket River watershed – with paddle trips, hikes, and bike rides.
Saturday, April 6, 10:00 am: Latham Brook Preserve Hike: Join the WRWC for this newly added hike in Smithfield! Trails have been newly blazed and marked by members of the Smithfield Land Trust for this roughly 4-mile round-trip hike at Latham Brook. This is a beautiful new wooded area to explore in Smithfield, with rolling hills and natural happenings yet to be discovered!
Saturday, April 27, 10:00 am: Ken Weber Conservation Area: Cascade Brook Hike: This one-mile trail is a short and easy hike for all skill levels and abilities. The 27-acre Ken Weber Conservation Area features the seasonal “Cascade Brook,” which produces a lovely waterfall in the springtime. Along the trail, you will also get to enjoy other treasures like Rhode Island’s rock-walls from another time, giant boulders, and stately trees. This serene property is maintained by the Smithfield Conservation Commission and was named for and dedicated to the late Ken Weber, known as “Nature’s best friend in Smithfield.” Ken and his wife Bettie laid out the trail.
Advance registration is required for all WRWC Recreation Program outings.
This recreation series is generously funded by REI CO-OP. Visit www.WRWC.ORG/EVENTS to register for these events and to see the full “Explore the Woonasquatucket” Recreation Series schedule.
