Covid Rates Rise in Rehoboth, Seekonk

Posted

The rate of Covid infections continue to increase. For the two week period ending on April 30, the Massachusetts Department of Health said Rehoboth had a daily positivity rate of 10.28 percent. Seekonk reported 8.68 percent. The statewide percent positivity average is 5.11. The 14 day average daily incidence rate for Rehoboth was 24.2 per 100,000 residents. Seekonk was 19.9 per 100,000. Fall River and New Bedford had lower daily incidence rates - 18.5 and 16.6 respectively.

Rehoboth’s Annual Town Meeting is this Saturday and Sunday at Francis Farm.

Face coverings will not be required and there will be no social distancing.

“It’s a personal decision,” said Selectmen Chairman Skip Vadnais. “If you want to wear (a mask), that’s a personal choice. We’re leaving it up to people what they want to do.”

Selectman Michael Deignan’s stance on the issue has not changed:

“Each person must make a decision whether or not to wear a mask based on their own individual circumstances,” Deignan wrote. “People are responsible for taking the necessary precautions to protect themselves based on their medical situation, beliefs, etc. and should not rely on others. It has been shown vaccinated people, including those 'fully vaccinated' can get and transmit COVID, and only a properly-fitted N95 mask will provide sufficient protection.”
