No Covid Vaccine Clinics Planned for Dighton-Rehoboth

Posted

Although the Covid vaccine is now available for children ages 5 through 11, Dighton-Rehoboth schools have no plans to hold vaccination clinics. “We have not had that discussion with our school committee,” Superintendent Anthony Azar said Friday. “We have not planned a clinic due to the fact that public awareness of the vaccine for students between the ages of 5 and 11 and its’ availability is extremely high.  At this time we continue to encourage families to vaccinate their child(ren). However, knowing that it’s a family decision we can only encourage and not mandate.”

Data from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) said the number of positive cases among students was 3,257 from November 11 through 17. That's an increase from 2,640 cases reported the previous week. Cases among school staff also increased from 381 to 558 over the same period.

“Covid-19 cases, until completely mitigated will be a concern,” Azar explained. “So far we have not been impacted to a large extent.  However, with the colder weather soon to appear, and a typical flu season right around the corner the concern of Covid-19 rears its’ ugly head.”
