Posted

Dr. Anthony Azar, Superintendent of Schools, recently visited the Dorothy L. Beckwith Middle School to read to students. The setting for Dr. Azar’s read was Ms. Hazzard and Ms. Carney-Andrews classes which were celebrating Read Across America with virtual and in person Guest Readers for several weeks in March.

Dr. Azar read one of his favorite stories in person to the students by Dr. Seuss entitled , ‘Marco Comes Late’. Joining Dr. Azar were other guest speakers including both Mrs. Donahue, our Special Education Coordinator and our Asst. Superintendent, Mr. Pirraglia. Other teachers from Beckwith, Dighton and Palmer River Elementary did a virtual read aloud as well. Parents also participated to do a virtual read of their favorite book. Ms. Hazard shared the following comment, “How exciting it is to inspire students' to read different genres and to pick up a book that they may not normally ever pick up”.

“I could feel the excitement in the classroom as I entered the room and was introduced to the students. I fully appreciate the efforts the staff made in order for the students to recognize what it takes to be a very good audience”, Supt. Azar said. “The students were attentive and asked very informative questions which inspired additional questions and insight throughout the read aloud”, Supt. Azar continued. The story, ‘Marco Comes Late’ was a hit with the students.
