Spring Trad Arts Classes at Slater Mill

Spring Trad Arts Class registrations have begun!

Classes being offered:
Chair Caning / Steve Emma
6 sessions, April 8 – May 13 (Wed. evenings), 6:30 – 8:30 PM
Master craftsman Steve Emma teaches open-studio chair caning on Wednesday evenings. All levels welcome, you provide the chair & tools, he provides the rush and reeds.

Needle Felting Foundations / Andrew Haviland
3 sessions, April 8 – 22 (Wed. evenings), 6 – 9 PM
RISD graduate and professional textile artist/jewelry designer Andrew Haviland teaches students the history of felting and its industrial and artistic applications, needle felting technique with demonstration and handouts.

Beginner Knitting / Pam Sluter
4 sessions, April 15 – May 6 (Wed. evenings), 6 – 8:30 PM
Pattern designer & knit instructor Pam Sluter returns this spring to teach beginners the solid foundations to build their knitting futures. In this class, students will learn basic knitting techniques. Students will need to bring their own yarn and knitting needles to each session.

Intermediate Knitting / Pam Sluter
4 sessions, May 13 – June 3 (Wed. evenings), 6 – 8:30 PM
Knit designer and RI native Pam Sluter offers students who have learned the basics the next level. Projects could include sweaters, hats, mittens, etc. Sluter will provide guidance in choosing projects and materials.

Handweaving / Suzi Ballenger
10 sessions, March 21 – June 6 (Sat. mornings), 10 AM – 12 PM
Artist and production weaver Suzi Ballenger returns to teach all levels of weaving in an open studio format on Saturday mornings. Slater Mill provides the Harrisville looms.

Primitive Rug Hooking / Ellen Gould
2 sessions, April 4 & 11 (Sat. mornings), 10 AM – 1 PM
Certified rug hooking instructor, Ellen Gould, teaches students the basics to rug hooking and its history. They will apply their new skills and techniques to create a sample rug. Range of dyed wools will be provided.
