SOS Speaks Out

Posted

We at Save Our Schools would like to make it clear that the claims against us in this article hold no standing.

This is just another attempt by Finance Committee Chairman Mike Deignan to ostracize any individual or group who disagrees with him. When running for School Committee against Chairperson Kathy Cooper, he called her 'Santa Claus,' citing the differences between Mrs. Cooper and himself regarding budgeting policy. When arguing with Superintendent Dr. Azar regarding the FY20 Budget process, he referred to himself as 'Grand Moff Tarkin' in order to loop himself in with another individual who had called herself 'Darth Vader.' Mr. Deignan has morphed the role of the Rehoboth Finance Committee from an advisory role of nonpartisanship to a purely political role, going against other town boards and committees (including the Selectmen who appoint them).

We shared the district's Google Form for volunteers at the Two-Town Meeting in order to spread the word and engage community members. We did not use "resources of the Dighton Rehoboth Regional School System to organize and run their political action committee." This piece of misinformation originally came from Rehoboth Talk. Shouldn't a town official like the Finance Committee Chairman get their information from a more reliable source? We implore Mr. Deignan to redact his statement, correcting this misinformation.
