Posted

Seekonk and Rehoboth are reporting an increase in positive Covid-19 cases. According to data released by the state’s Department of Health, for the two week testing period which concluded on April 7, Seekonk reported 70 new cases. The daily positivity rate was 6.76 percent. The average daily incidence rate is 33.1 per 100,000. The total case count is 1245.

Rehoboth reported 56 new cases. The daily positivity rate was 6.32 percent. The average daily incidence rate is 29.8 per 100,000. The total case count is 912.

Seekonk and Rehoboth are designated as red, which is reserved for cities and towns with the highest average of new infections.

Dighton, Swansea, Fall River, and New Bedford have also seen increases in their infection rates and remain designated as red.

The Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School District, like all districts throughout the state, were instructed by Governor Charlie Baker and Jeff Riley, the Commissioner of Education, to bring back students in person and full time beginning on April 5th.

Dighton-Rehoboth Superintendent Anthony Azar said the schools are equipped to deal with the increase in infections.

“Once we reviewed the new guidance we were initially concerned, but, otherwise had no choice,” Azar noted. “Thus, we have ordered and received additional air purifiers, upgrades in our HVAC system filters, additional PPE supplies, plexiglass and desks in anticipation of the new directives.  Also, (our) staff have been very active in securing and receiving the vaccine.  However, with the spike of Covid-19 in both communities registering red, it is certainly a cause of concern.”
