Normand O. Hamel, age 94, of Carpenter St., Rehoboth, MA, died April 16, 2019 at home with his loving family by his side. He was the husband of the late Bertha E. (Allard) Hamel for almost 70 years. He was born in Woonsocket, RI, a son of the late Conrad and Emerentienne (Tetreault) Hamel.

Normand was a proud retired Navy Veteran of 23 years, whose service spanned from World War II through the Vietnam War. After Military Retirement, he was employed by Sunshine Biscuits as a warehouse manager, and later by the US Postal Service. He was a graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy and Dean Junior College in Franklin, MA.

He is survived by his 7 children; Normand Hamel of Waltham, MA, Christine Fassi of Las Cruces, NM, Catherine Riendeau of Seekonk, MA, Mark Hamel, Thomas Hamel and Genevieve Hamel all of Pawtucket, RI, Eric Hamel of Rehoboth, MA and 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He is the brother of Rolande Cote of Myrtle Beach, SC, Rene Hamel, DDS of Oxford, MA, Conrad Hamel of Cumberland, RI and Robert Hamel of Fairport, NY.

He was predeceased by his son Jacques (Jack) Hamel.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend A Mass of Christian Burial on Monday (4/22) at 10am in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 984 Taunton, Ave., Seekonk, MA. Burial with Military Honors to be at St John the Baptist Cemetery in Bellingham, MA. Calling hours are respectfully omitted. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Vincent De Paul Society, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, or the Community VNA Hospice, 10 Emory St., Attleboro, MA 02703
