Dighton-Rehoboth Unveils $42M Budget

Posted

The Dighton-Rehoboth Regional School operating budget for the 2022 fiscal year is $42.1 million. That represents a 1.52 percent increase over the 2021 budget.

The school committee held a public hearing Tuesday.

Rehoboth will be paying $13, 976, 958 and Dighton will be paying $6, 852, 198 for their minimum contributions. Each town’s contribution is increased from 2021. Dighton is paying $67, 340 more and Rehoboth is paying $289, 236.

School Business Administrator Paul Kitchen said federal funding could be used to off-set the assessments, which may impact the final totals.

“The caution I have to say is its one-time money,” Kitchen told the committee. “When you use a lot of that one-time money, the following year you have a huge swing. If the increase for 2023 is an additional $290,000 then the town of Rehoboth may have to come up with almost $600,000.”

Kitchen said the decision to use the funds is up to the board of selectmen.

Rehoboth’s total assessment is $19, 799, 989 and Dighton’s total assessment is $11, 090, 846.

The budget will be voted on at the May town meeting.
