East Providence bounded back into the win column with an exciting 6-5 win over Moses Brown in extra innings on Wednesday night. The game played at Moses Brown was finally settled after ten innings of play. Moses Brown got on the board in the third inning after Gavin Marsh singled, scoring one run. The Townies tied the game at 1 in the top of the fourth. Max Correiro led off with a line drive single to right field and raced to 2nd and then 3rd on a passed ball and wild pitch. Kyle Desrosiers then hit a sacrifice fly to right field plating Correiro.
The score remained tied at 1 after seven regulation innings. East Providence took a 3-1 lead in the top of the 8th. With Lexington Garelli, the courtesy runner now on second base, JJ Renaud sacrificed Garelli to third. Max Pawlik drove a line single to center field scoring Garelli. Pawlik got to third on a passed ball and Aidan Martins banged a single to Center Field scoring Pawlik.
However, as the game teetered back and forth in extra innings, Moses Brown wouldn’t go down without a fight. They tied the game at 3 in their half of the 8th inning.
Yet, the Townies went ahead again in the top of the 9th. Aidan Martins was the runner on 2nd and scampered to 3rd on an attempted pick-off throw from the MB pitcher. Martins then scored on a wild pitch. With the crowd on the edge of their seats, East Providence went ahead again 4-3.
The drama continued as MB tied the score at 4. With two outs and the courtesy runner on 2nd base, Will Haggerty was walked intentionally. MB hitter Boudreau singled to score Wesner and the game was once again tied, now after 9 innings.
East Providence’s Kyle Desrosiers reached base on an error moving courtesy runner Gavin Palombo to 3rd. Jayden Healey then lofted a fly ball to left and Desrosiers scored on the sacrifice tag from 3rd. Needing an insurance run, EP’s Palombo was safe stealing home and the Townies now led 6-4 going into the bottom of the 10th.
The home team MB wasn’t quite done. With their courtesy runner on 2nd, Quackenbush lined out to Aidan Martins in Center for the first out. A ground single to 1st moved the runner to 3rd. Next a fielder’s choice knocked in Moses Brown’s 5th run. A two out ground ball back to Townie relief pitcher Jayden Healey was fielded cleanly and the Townies took a frantic 6-5 win pushing their D1 record to 14-3.
The Townies next game is a rematch against LaSalle on Monday at EPHS. The team will travel to North Kingstown on Tuesday for the regular season finale before state playoffs.
Jayden Healey earned the win for East Providence. The righty relieved Lefty Hallene who led things off on the hill for the Townies. The lefty allowed six hits and one run over seven innings, striking out seven and walking three. Brayden Menard started the game for Moses Brown. The starter surrendered four hits and three runs (zero earned) over seven and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking two.
Jayden Healey, Aidan Martins, Max Pawlik, and Kyle Desrosiers each drove in one run for East Providence. Max Correiro went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead East Providence in hits.
