January Racial Justice Book Discussion The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story

Posted

As part of Newman Congregational Church, United Church of Christ’s ongoing commitment to education and dialogue on structural racism and white supremacy, we invite the wider community to participate in our monthly book discussions.

Our next series will be held in January, 2022 and we will be discussing The 1619 Project: A New Origin Story.

From the book jacket: ”This book speaks directly to our current moment, contextualizing the systems of race and caste within which we operate today. It reveals long-glossed-over truths around our nation's founding -- and the way that the legacy of slavery did not end with emancipation but continues to shape modern American life.”

Sessions are being held using the Zoom online platform on Monday evenings, January 10, 17 and 24 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm.

Interested in participating? Visit our website and register at www.newmanucc.org/ministires/racial-justice or contact Pastor Timoth Sylvia at 401-434-4742 ext. 11 with questions.

Newman UCC is an Open and Affirming congregation of the United Church of Christ and extends this invitation to one and all, living out the example of Jesus’ extravagant welcome.
