Hennessey celebrated their annual reading week with a variety of fun and engaging activities. The theme this year was “Read Around the World” and students and staff participated in school-wide read alouds, mystery readers, DEAR, and even decorate your own masks with their favorite book character. Students are getting excited for reading week. First Grader, Liam, enjoys reading about birds and Mickey Mouse. He likes those books because they are enjoyable and cool! Hennessey students and staff want to send our sincere appreciation and thanks to all of the guest readers that took time out of their day to celebrate reading week with us. WE APPRECIATE YOU!

In April, students focused on the core value of Acceptance. We had a blue spirit day to show our support of Autism Awareness. Decades Spirit Day was a hit and students did a great job dressing for the decade. Looking forward to our May spirit days of Workout Day and Red, White and Blue Day! Our Writing Club was excited to publish the first ever Hennessey Herald! You can read about current events, learn more about staff members, try out one of the recipes or get a laugh from our comics section. 3rd grader, Rianna, was a writer for the Herald. Her favorite part was when she got to interview Mrs Reilly. She thought it was so great to be able to interview an elementary principal.

Students are loving the features from their new district issued chromebooks. The chrome canvas has been a student favorite and being able to use the canvas like a dry erase board has been an engaging, new feature. Jaxon, a 2nd grader likes the new chromebook, She says it’s fun to learn with. She likes to use the canvas for math problems.

Our staff is wrapping up our school-wide text based PLC on Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain by Zaretta Hammond as well as our work and training with Nonviolent Schools RI. Shout out to all of the Hennessey School Staff for taking part in this important work and dedicating their time to push our practices and thinking forward.

As always, our Hennessey Heroes know the importance of always being SAFE, RESPECTFUL and PROUD and we look forward to finishing the last two months of the school year strong and focusing on our May core value of TEAMWORK. #HennesseyRising #HennHeroPride
