It was a good Tuesday night for East Providence HIgh School Athletics. Girls LAX, Softball and Baseball all were winners. Here is a brief update of the contests.
EPHS Girls LAX:
The East Providence High girls Lacrosse team remained unbeaten as they outscored Toll Gate 14-12 in a home match Tuesday night. Scoring three goals each for the Townies were: Alyssa Karalekas, Kloey Iacovone, Ella Benson and Kat Almeida. Dylan Flynn scored the other two goals and EP Goalie Ava Williams had 8 saves.
Delanie Wheeler had 6 goals for Toll Gate and Aubrey Rubeira added 4 goals. Toll Gate goalie Olivia NaPolitano had 9 saves.
The 5-0 Townies have now defeated Smithfield, North Smithfield, Bay View, PCD/St. Rays and Toll Gate.
EPHS Softball:
Ella Grimley drove in four runs on two hits to lead 4-3 East Providence past Moses Brown 11-4 in an away game Tuesday. The big hit for EP was a third inning grand slam to left field by Grimley.
Sylvie Patterson, Nethania Figueroa, and Ava Silva combined for four of the team's seven hits in the win. They scored three runs and drove in two.
Moses Brown got on the board in the bottom of the second inning after an error led to a Sofia Arias single down the left field line. Another single knocked in a run. A MB homerun to center field tied the game at four in the bottom of the third.
In the top of the fifth, East Providence went ahead after Trinity Provencher was struck by a pitch with the bases loaded, driving in a run. Next a double by Patterson followed to extend the lead to 8-4. East Providence went on to the 11-4 win on the road.
Cassie Dulude earned the win for East Providence. She allowed six hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking two.
Patterson and Grimley each had two hits for EP. Mackenzie Pimentel walked three times for the Townies.
EPHS Baseball:
Kyle Desrosiers was dominant on the mound, as the Townie pitcher rang up 10 strikeouts in East Providence’s win over Cranston East in Cranston Tuesday night. Desrosiers allowed just four hits and three runs over four and one-third innings while walking one.
East Providence came out swinging and scored four runs in the first inning. Gavin Palombo grounded out, scoring one run, Oliver Andrews knocked in a run and Tyler Dicecco doubled, scoring two runs.
East Providence added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Max Carreiro singled down the left field line, Brian Rutkowski grounded out, Oliver Andrews singled down the right field line, and Tim Robatille singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Robatille threw two and two-thirds innings of no-run ball for East Providence giving up one hit, striking out six and walking two.
The Townies hit the ball hard all game including Robatille, Desrosiers, and Max Carreiro each with two hits. Tyler Dicecco and Oliver Andrews each drove in two runs. Robatille walked twice. The Townies stole seven bases in the game.
Softball plays on Wednesday in a 4:30 home game against La Salle. East Providence baseball plays next in a 4:30 home game Thursday against Lincoln. Girls LAX play Thursday 4:30 at home against Smithfield.
