I am writing today to express my utter disgust and heart sickness at the appalling lack of consideration and care my fellow humans demonstrate at Willett Pond. People using the parking lot and boat ramp area for fishing and picnicking leave behind food wrappers, bottles and cans, bait containers and miles of fishing line, some with hooks attached. In the woods along the walking trail, there are countless empty nip bottles, fishing bobbers festooning the trees and bushes, used condoms, etc. People walking dogs do not clean up after them, often leaving feces right in the middle of trail. This past week, a human chose to defecate at the base of a tree right on the path, left their pile and a wad of soiled paper towels behind. Nice! I also witnessed someone destroy two of the trees recently planted, which were replaced at taxpayer's expense. Last year, I found a dead river otter on Willett Ave which had been struck by a car. I am imploring all who wish to enjoy spending time at the pond and it's environs to please respect nature and the rights of others who also want to spend time there!
