Daniel A. Spaight, Jr., 90, of East Providence, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 surrounded by his loved ones.
Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Daniel A. and Gladys L. (Mulholland) Spaight. He was married to Jacqueline R. (Brown) Spaight with whom he would have celebrated 67 years of marriage with in November. He was the proud father of three children, Linda J. Spaight, Susan S. Torres of Rhode Island and Thomas D. Spaight of Minnesota, and beloved grandfather of; Samantha, Kaleigh, Emily, Ally, Jack, Lillian and Rosemary. He was the brother of Russell J. Spaight and the late Leo W. Spaight, Francis Spaight and Barbara Robillard. He also had many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family that were so important to him.
Dan began his long and successful career in education as a teacher in the East Providence School Department, worked for the State Department of Education, became Vice Principal of Central Vocational High School in Providence, retired as an advisor on Vocational Education to the State Board of Regents, and taught for several years at Johnson & Wales University during his retirement. Dan was an active member of St. Martha’s Parish, where he was one of the original parishioners, served as a lector and a member of the Finance Council. He was also a loyal member of the East Providence Council 1528, Knights of Columbus. He was a lifelong golfer and a member of Segregansett Country Club in Taunton and also an active member of the East Providence Democratic Committee.
His funeral will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Martha's Church, Pawtucket Avenue. Burial will be in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday 3-6 PM.
