The Hendricken Hawks defeated East Providence 10-0 on Thursday thanks in part to six runs in the fifth inning. The Hawks got on the board in the bottom of the third inning after Parker Boyd tripled, scoring two runs, and Cullen Crain laid down a sacrifice bunt, scoring one run The Hawks scored six runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Dylan Poloski singled, scoring two runs, Mason Crain singled, scoring two runs, and Brett Knight singled, scoring two runs.
Lefty Hallene pitched for the Townies and the usually reliable senior southpaw, although with some good innings, fell short in the first game of the best of three championship series. The Townies made some great plays in the field but couldn’t mount an offense. East Providence’s three hits came from Max Correiro, Jayden Healey, and Gavin Palombo.
In the only other game between these two teams earlier in the season, East Providence shut out Hendricken 3-0.
Game two will be played on Saturday afternoon at 12 noon at Rhode Island College. If the Townies can come back and win Saturday’s game, a third and deciding championship game will be played at RIC on Tuesday afternoon.
