Olivia (Libby) Gomes, of Riverside, Rhode Island, passed from this life into the arms of Jesus just after midnight on December 2, 2022. According to her close friend, Dr. Patrick Gallagher, her homegoing was peaceful as she was transported to her eternal reward.

Born on June 15, 1928, Miss Gomes was raised in Fall River, Massachusetts. She was the daughter of the late Joaquim and Virginia (Costa) Gomes and was predeceased by her sister, Laurinda Fernandes. She is survived by her nephew, David, of Rolla, Missouri, and his children, Naomi and Avi. Miss Gomes also leaves behind her beloved cat, Sunny. She was blessed to live to be ninety-four years old.

Known to generations of students at Zion Bible College (now Northpoint Bible College) as Sister Libby, Miss Gomes was pleased to be cared for by a nurse at Miriam Hospital who happened to be a graduate of the school. She was admitted there after suffering a fall at home in the morning and passed away that night.

For over fifty years, Miss Gomes was dedicated to the ministry of Zion Bible College which was her Alma Mater. She served there in many capacities following her graduation in 1954. Miss Gomes was dearly loved by Zion’s students, serving as advisor to three different classes over the decades. She will be missed by all those who knew her and were touched by her guiding hand. Gifts in her memory may be made to Northpoint Bible College and designated for the Alumni Scholarship Fund: Northpoint Bible College, 320 South Main Street, Haverhill, MA 01835.

Visitation will be on Saturday, December 10, from 10:00 AM until 10:50 AM at Zion Gospel Church, 70 Leonard Avenue, East Providence, Rhode Island. A Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00 AM with committal following.
