Michael J. Thomas, Jr., 82, of Riverside, passed away on Tuesday March 1, 2022 at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence. He was the son of the late Michael J. Thomas Sr. and Victoria (Maroun) Thomas.

Michael received his Bachelor’s degree from Providence College and then continued his education at Rhode Island College, earning two Master’s degrees.

In 1964, he began his teaching career at St. Charles Elementary School in Providence, where he was a teacher, Assistant Principal and eventually Principal. In 1972, he was a History Teacher at East Providence High School until he retired in 1996. He was Assistant Hockey Coach from 1973-1982 and was also the Tennis Coach for nine years throughout his career. Professional Organizations include EPEA, NEARI and the City of East Providence Beautification Commission. Michael was also the co-owner of Feather and Quill Antiques.

Michael was also a supporter of the Autism Society, the RI Lung Association, The Tomorrow Fund, the Candlelighters Group, PTA and DAV. In 1987-1992 he was the Chief Examiner for the Adult Education Program, the Satellite Supervisor for CCRI Adult Education commencing in 1993 and a Student Counselor at CCRI. He was also a collector at Our Lady of Loretto Church and St. Brendan’s Church.

He is survived by his wife Karen of 39 years; brother, Richard Thomas and his four children, Michael J. Thomas III of Barrington, Scott Thomas of Lincoln, Adam Medeiros of Bristol and Lisa Medeiros Laliberte of West Greenwich. Michael is also survived by his grandson, Dylan Thomas Morley of West Greenwich.
