Mary E. Hayward (Dourado)

Mary E. Hayward (Dourado) 95 of Tryon Avenue, Rumford, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family July 26th. She was the beloved wife of 73 years of the love of her life, the late Henry S. Hayward. The couple were Junior High School sweethearts. In retirement they would enjoy breakfast out each day at their favorite spots, Micheletti's in Seekonk, Farnsworth's in Riverside, Seekonk Newport Creamery and Bliss Dairy in Attleboro. They were active and on the go until Covid hit in 2020.

Mary was born in East Providence and lived there her entire life. She was the daughter of the late Jessie C. (Almeida) Dourado (of Sao Miguel/Azores) and the late Joseph M. Dourado Jr. Mary was all about the love and caring of her family. She truly believed that family was the center of all and enjoyed every opportunity to be with them frequently. She was known as a very loving,caring,compassionate and giving person.

She leaves two daughters, Joan L. Rutan and her husband John of Denton, Texas; Sheila J. Dyer and her husband Donald of Rehoboth; and a son (former East Providence Mayor) Mark S. Hayward and his wife Nancy of Seekonk. Four grandchildren, Julie James and her husband Jed of Dighton; Patrick Hayward and his wife Stephanie of Cumberland; Kelsey Hayward and her partner Angelica of Seekonk and Megan Hayward of Seekonk. She also leaves three great grandchildren Ryan and Olivia James, and John Patrick Hayward.

She was the sister of the late Joseph J. Dourado; the late Agnes I. (Dourado) Christopher, the late Cecelia E. Dourado, and the late John J. Dourado, who passed when he was six years old.

She was a graduate of East Providence High School Class of 1944 and worked briefly after graduation in the insurance industry. Mary was family oriented and dedicated her life to raising her three children.

Mary and Henry spent many summers in Narragansett and frequently visited family in Maine. They loved "The Tent" (Warwick Musical Theater) where they would attend concerts and shows and traveling with their many friends from the Narragansett Electric Company. Mary was previously a communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church in East Providence and for years was a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality.

At her passing she was a communicant of St. Margaret's Church in Rumford. All services and arrangements for Mary will be private. Burial will be at Mount St. Mary's Cemetery in East Providence.

The Hayward Family would like to especially thank CNA Marguerite Peck for her wonderful loving care and devotion of both Henry and Mary in their final days. In addition, they would also thank Home & Hospice of Portsmouth Rhode Island for their professionalism, care and guidance of both Henry and Mary.
