Maria de Fatima (Araujo) Ferreira, 87, of East Providence, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Steere House on Sunday, September 10, 2023. She was the wife of the late João Ferreira.

Born in Lomba do Cavaleiro, Povação, São Miguel, Azores, she was the daughter of the late, Antonio and Odilia (Ferreira) Araujo. Mrs. Ferreira was a faithful communicant of St. Francis Xavier Church since 1970. She was passionate about her large garden, her master gardening skills would bring life from seedling to bountiful fruit which she was so happy to share with everyone. She enjoyed cooking and making floral arrangements. Mrs. Ferreira had a beautiful sense of humor, she was selfless and always gave of herself. She loved to entertain her grandchildren, she loved face timing with her grandkids in Georgia. Most of all she loved to spend time with her adoring family. She will be so dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. Her family will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.


She was the beloved mother of Vidalia Adalio and her husband Stanley of East Providence, Antonio Ferreria and his wife Wendy of North Providence, Maria Olinda Ferreira and her partner Marc Fontaine of Pawtucket, and Danny Ferreira and his wife Elizabeth of East Providence, her brother, José Araujo of East Providence, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild as well as many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late, Dorvalino Araujo, and Humberto Araujo.


Her funeral will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Francis Xavier Church, North Carpenter Street. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Friday from 5-8 P.M.
