Joseph A. Pangborn, Jr. 89, passed away on Friday, September 30, 2022 at Miriam Hospital. He was the husband of the late Judith A. (Hammarlund) Pangborn.


Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Joseph A. Sr. and Cecelia (Mathers) Pangborn. Mr. Pangborn was a Mechanical Engineer at Twin River Casino before he retired. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served as a flight engineer with the 5th Air Force during the Korean War and after with the Strategic Air Command. He was a 1950 graduate of LaSalle Academy and attended Providence College on a Rhode Island Golf Caddy Scholarship. He met and married the love of his life, Judith A. Hammarlund to whom he was married for 62 years. Mr. Pangborn was involved in many civic organizations. He was past Chairman of the East Providence Citizen Advisory Commission and past Chairman of the East Providence Economic Development Commission. He was an East Providence Special Police Officer for 20 years and was also the recording secretary for the East Providence Special Police Lodge #1. He was a former member of the Metacomet Country Club, Segragansett Country Club and the Silver Spring Country Club. He was a member of the East Providence Council 1528, Knights of Columbus.


He leaves four children, Kim McLeod and her husband Doug of Johnston, Heather Jeanne Andrade and her husband John of East Providence, Timothy Pangborn and his wife Lynn of Newport and Jonathan Pangborn and his wife Susan of East Providence, eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. He was the father of the late Joseph N. Pangborn, Gregory Pangborn and Christopher Pangborn and brother of the late Walter Pangborn and Robert Pangborn.


His funeral will be held on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM in St. Martha's Church, Pawtucket Avenue. Burial will be private. Calling hours Thursday 4-7.
