Joan M. (Douglas) Moore, 89, of Rumford, died peacefully on June 24, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Clifton A. Moore Sr.

Born in New York City, NY, she was the daughter of the late Nathaniel J. and Esther M. (Ambleman) Douglas and lived in Rumford for 58 years.

Mrs. Moore was a 1954 graduate of Boston University Sargent College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. She was a staff physical therapist at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation from September 1954-August 1956; the Visiting Nurses Association of Boston from 1956-1957; the Detroit Cerebral Palsy Center from October 1959-August 1960; Pawtucket Memorial Hospital from November 1973-April 1976 and in the Providence Public Schools system from January 1978 until her retirement in July of 1995.

Joan was a founding member of the Providence Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She was a member of the NAACP, the Urban League, the League of Women Voters and the Church of the Epiphany, Rumford. She was a former board member of the Episcopal Diocese of Rhode Island and was a former Rumford Cub Scout and Girl Scout Leader. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, singing, sewing and dining out with her loving family.

She is survived by her children, Clifton A. Moore Jr. and his partner Sue Roberts of Rumford, Marilyn A. Johnson and her husband Raymond of East Providence and Theresa M. Moore of Pawtucket; three grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Morgan Johnson and Briana Johnson, all of East Providence; a brother, N. John Douglas and his wife Hazel of California and a nephew, Gregory Douglas of San Francisco, CA.

Her funeral will be held on Monday, June 28, 2021, from the W. RAYMOND WATSON FUNERAL HOME, 350 Willett Avenue, Riverside at 8:30 a.m. with a Funeral Service at the Church of the Epiphany, 1336 Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.
