Irene M. (Lindsay) Luther

Irene M. (Lindsay) Luther, 97, of East Providence passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. She was the wife of late Bruce A Luther to whom she was married for 55 years. Born in Duluth, MN, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Valeria (Kulus) Lindsay.

Irene gave of her time and talents to others. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout leader for 12 years, and taught religious education to the children of St. Luke Church. Irene's association with and attendance at many Masses with the sisters of the Carmelite Monastery in Barrington held a deep place in her heart. After her children were grown, she returned to working as a bookkeeper until retiring from Davis, Bateman and Nugent in Providence.

She was the loving mother of Carl A. Luther (deceased) of Barrington, Diane Luther Baxter and her husband John S. Baxter (deceased) of East Providence, Cynthia A. Benway and her husband Alan “Rusty” Benway of East Providence, one granddaughter, Amanda L. Luther of NJ. She was the sister of the late Harold Lindsay, Leona Camp, and Lois Rosenthal. Her funeral and visitation will be held at 9:30 A.M. on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, in PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM St Luke Church, 108 Washington Road, Barrington. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Hospice & Palliative Care, 1085 North Main Street, Providence, RI 02904.
