Bruce H. Fitzgerald, 72, of West Warwick, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary Ann (Ballou) Fitzgerald to whom he was married for 12 years. He was also the husband of the late Maureen (Carlin) Fitzgerald.

Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Francis Fitzgerald and Estrid (Barry) Marmas.

Mr. Fitzgerald worked as a Biomedical engineer until he retired. He proudly served his country in the Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam war and continued his public service with the West Warwick Police Department. He enjoyed volunteering his time with Rhode Island Special Olympics for many years. Mr. Fitzgerald was passionate about antiques and was an expert on vintage firearms and was known to many as an encyclopedia of Americana. Mr. Fitzgerald was an avid gun collector and a firearms instructor. He was a member of the Highland Rod & Gun Club in Scituate. Mr. Fitzgerald was a kind man who was ready and willing to help anyone he could. He saw the good in everyone, he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed by all who knew him.

Besides his wife Mary Ann, he leaves three stepchildren, Jason Ballou and his wife Kayla of Belchertown, MA, Ashley Ballou, and her fiancé Steven Dailey of Swansea, Colby Ballou of Westfield, MA, two grandchildren, Jaxson and Madison Ballou, one brother, Gary Fitzgerald, and one stepbrother, Steven Marmas. He was the brother of the late, Laurie Fitzgerald.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. in the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence. A burial with Military Honors in Mt. Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket. Calling Hours will be on Friday from 5-8 PM.
