East Providence, RI - St. Mary Academy – Bay View's Visual Arts Department is proud to announce that 17 students were recently presented with 22 Scholastic Art Awards from the Rhode Island Art Education Association (RIAEA). They were acknowledged in a ceremony at Rhode Island College (RIC) on Sunday, January 19, and their work will be on display at RIC’s Chazan Family Gallery in Alex & Ani Hall through February 2, after which there will be an exhibit in the Art Wing and Gallery at St. Mary Academy – Bay View.

The Scholastic Art Awards program is the nation’s largest, longest-running and most prestigious visual and literary arts program in the country. Their mission is to recognize and foster the creative achievements of students in grades 7 through 12. Art teachers submit a limited number of student work into the competition. This year, out of 30 submissions 22 Bay View students received awards—the most of any school in Rhode Island. The five pieces that received a Gold Key will go on to be judged in the national competition.
