Aspasia Sfougaris Tsonos, 97, of East Providence, passed away at her home on Monday, August 28, 2023. She was the wife of the late Stephen K. Tsonos.


Born in Lowell, MA. she was the daughter of the late Stella Saxionis Sfougaris and Nikos Xarhakos and beloved stepdaughter of Nikos Sfougaris. She is survived by her best friend and son Peter T. Tsonos and sons Charles S. Tsonos, LT Col (RET. USAR) and Nicholas S. Tsonos and his wife Beverly. She leaves 7 beloved grandchildren Stacey Mandeville, Stephen Z Tsonos, Nicholas Tsonos, Phaedra Tsonos, Dena Francescon, Matthew Tsonos and Charlie Tsonos, and 13 adored great-grandchildren, Mariah Placido, Madison Doyle, Garrett Doyle, Nicholas Tsonos, Brooke Tsonos, Tyler Conneally, Joseph Tsonos, Cooper Tsonos, Jon Tsonos, Paige Tsonos, Drusilla Francescon, Effie Tsonos and Teddy Tsonos. She also leaves her sister, Tula Sfougaris. She was the mother-in-law of the late Drusilla (Roberts) Tsonos and sister of the late Nicholetta Cooper, James Sfougaris, Peter Sfougaris, Charles Sfougaris and Maria Sfougaris.


Aspasia went to Boston Trade School at the age of 16 and became a seamstress for many years. She went on to receive her GED and college degree from URI at age 50 and then attained her Master's Degree from RIC in substance abuse counseling at age 55. She worked at Fuller Memorial Hospital and Codac Behavioral Healthcare until retiring.


Aspasia enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, She loved being active throughout her life, swimming being her favorite activity. She welcomed and fed everyone who came through her door and especially loved hosting the holidays and cooking everyone's favorite Greek food.


Aspasia lived in Canton, MA for 22 years, until she married Stephen Tsonos, creating a home in East Providence, RI where she lived for 75 years.


Her funeral will be held on Friday, September 1, 2023 at 9:00 AM from the PERRY-McSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a service at 10:00 AM in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 97 Walcott Street, Pawtucket. Burial will be in Forest Chapel Cemetery, Barrington. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4-9.
