Antonio R. Ferreira Sr., 95, of East Providence, passed away, Thursday morning, April 8, 2021 at Linn Heath Care Center. He was the husband of the late Beatrice (Vincent Cordeiro) Ferreira for sixty years.

Born Feb. 5, 1926, in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Jose and Maria (Da Fonseca) Ferreira. He attended Lasalle Academy and left to proudly serve with the US Navy during WWII aboard the USS Springfield to Okinawa then to Japan . He later was a member of Local 1684 I.L.A.AFL-CIO where he served for 37 years. He was a proud member of the Prince Henry Club where he served on the Board of Directors.

He leaves his daughter and son-in-law, Claudia and Dr. Alerino Iacobbo of Smithfield; his son, Antonio R. Ferreira Jr. of East Providence; his grandchildren, Melissa DiFilippo, Marcus Mello and Nina Jackson; and his great-grandchildren, Cameron and Colin Folgo.

He was also the brother of Salvador and his wife Vas of Milford, MA; Rose Whitaker of East Providence, and the late Abel Ferreira, who passed away two days before Antonio.

"Tony" was the true definition of a Family Man". He always assisted one family member in need and enjoyed every minute of it. His retirement role ranged from farming to flowers. He adored his grandchildren and spent many a happy family day together. New England sports kept him busy especially his loyalty to the Red Sox and Patriots.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, April 13, in St. Francis Xavier Church, 81 No. Carpenter St., East Providence. Burial with military honors will follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Visitation will take place in church Tuesday, from 9:30am until 10am.
