Anita L. “Pet” Fernandes, 81, passed away on Friday, September 1, 2023.

She was the wife of Zachary Fernandes, Sr. to whom she was married for 60 years.

Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Clara (Santos) Soares.

Mrs. Fernandes was an Licensed Practical Nurse for Saint Joseph’s Hospital for many years before retiring. She was also a member of the Junior Progressives at the Cape Verdean Progressive Center in East Providence.

Besides her husband she leaves one daughter, Zena Fernandes, one son, Zachary Fernandes, Jr., four grandchildren, Syrena Fernandes, Angelique Fernandes, Zachary Fernandes, III and Christina Fernandes, one great grandchild, Owen Taylor, two sisters, Sylvia Ann Soares and Danette Chatfield, one brother, Arthur Soares, and many nieces and nephews including her special niece, Linda Washington. She was the sister of the late Barbara Taylor.

Her funeral and visitation will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM in the PERRY-MCSTAY FUNERAL HOME, 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence with a service to follow at 12:00 PM. Burial will be private.
