Looking for something to do this weekend? Off the warm couch and enjoy some great EP student-athletics

Posted

Student-Athletics literally keeps hundreds of EP youth off the street corners or away from their phones, tablet games and other keyboard technology. At least for awhile. These athletes and coaches are busy every day with either practice or games.

The strong determination and pride shown by these kids is a definite pre-requisite for character building. Without argument, athletics, either as an informal or formal activity, leads directly to academic success.

We are just a couple of years removed from that time when ALL middle school sports were abolished and some high school programs were diminished. What a breath of fresh air that most have returned!

There are several choices for you to attend this weekend and some that I may have missed mentioning:

The EPHS boys and girls basketball teams just finished great Senior Night activities this past week and are in the playoffs.

The EPHS boys JV Basketball team is playing in the State semi-finals today at 4 pm at West Warwick High School.

The defending champion EPHS Competition Cheerleaders are hosting an Invitational Tournament Sunday at EPHS at 1 pm.

The Boys and Girls EPHS Indoor Track and Field teams are competing in the Class A championship at the Providence Tech Field house (near Central/Classical) started at 9 am and going through the day.

EPHS Wrestling is hosting an invitational tournament all day today at EPHS. Started at 9 am.

And the Middle School State Wrestling Championships are today and Sunday. Started at 9 am, going all day. The finals will wrap up tomorrow at 12 noon. Both Martin and Riverside are projected to do well. Martin is undefeated so far for two years in a row. They are hoping to repeat as State Champions.

Hockey is pictured here but will be playing on Tuesday, Feb. 16th at 12:30 pm at West Warwick; and on @/19 at 9:20 pm at Woonsocket and on 2/20 at 6:30 pm at Thayer Arena.

I'm sure that Bay View and PCD are also involved in many of these events. Now that's a full slate of sports! Good luck to all! Get out of the house and support our youth. They'll be on the city council or school committee some day and maybe in Washington too.
