K-Rob Flips Providence, Aug. 13th

“I am going for a world record by doing a no-hands back flip over a 100 foot distance from start to finish,” said the BMX world famous gold medalist from East Providence, RI. Kevin Robinson is technically retired but will make this attempt which will be televised by ESPN. The event, chronicled by Guinness Book of World Records, will be held at Providence’s Kennedy Plaza on August 13th. The event runs from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Live music will include a performance by East Providence’s Pat Lowell with his popular acoustic sound.

K-Rob has endured over 50 surgeries throughout his illustrious career and retired from BMX performances in 2013. “I’m always glad to bring things back to my home state of Rhode Island. A lot of these exhibits began here with the X games and it’s in my blood,” said the Townie native now living in Barrington, RI.

Robinson’s foundation which has donated thousands of dollars and hours to charities issued a statement which said in part, “We are glad to open up a beautiful skate park in East Providence recently. This has been a dream of mine. When I started the foundation, this is what I wanted to do. It took about seven years to make it happen, but here it is," said Robinson.

“I invite everyone to help cheer me on to a possible world record on August 13th. If you can't make it down to Kennedy Plaza, you can watch the jump live on ESPN2 at about 5:00 p.m. The event is free for all, however, we do have a VIP package available that includes VIP preferred seating and a personal tour of the ramp by K-Rob! While the event (Kennedy Plaza) is free to the public, we do have a limited number of VIP tickets available that include a personal tour and preferred seating. It’s going to be awesome!”

In an earlier interview with The Reporter, Robinson says that his love for East Providence has also inspired much of his success in life too. “East Providence is part of my DNA. It is part of my personality, part of my core. It is what I am about. It’s like a family member. I know that I can always come home to this place. It is the place that built me. Sometimes you go through life and face different adversities, and sometimes the best choice that you can make is to go back to simplicity. Go back home, and get re-grounded. Go back to the place that built you,” he said.

The K-Rob foundation also donated $30,000 to the effort to re-build Onna Moniz Playground at Central Park in East Providence. The project involved a combined effort of the East Providence City Council, city planners and staff and others in the community including EP graduate John Carnevale.

Robinson said that he formed his K-Rob foundation initially to help guide local youth, especially if they couldn’t afford to participate in sports. “If the family can’t afford it, we can help with paying the fees,” said the East Providence High School Hall of Famer.
