A water main break at the intersection of Allerton and Dover avenues in the Kent Heights neighborhood of East Providence was repaired several hours after it occurred. The incident happened at about 5:00 pm on Thursday night, December 6th.

"A water main break has been discovered at Allerton and Dover and approximately 15 houses may be without water until repairs are done," said a statement from Mayor Bob DaSilva on Thursday night. "Some homes within several blocks may experience dirty water during this time."

At 8:00 pm the Mayor announced that "water service has been restored." In addition to the water main break, National Grid was on site to work on a related gas line issue. One official on site said that a gas line was not marked correctly by National Grid and was disturbed when the water line was being worked on. The city water department repaired the water main and National Grid checked and secured the gas line.
