Water Break at EPHS Adds to Woes

Sink Water Line Floods High School Bathrooms

Posted

Sometime around 1:00 PM on Wednesday afternoon a second floor bathroom sink let go and flooded that bathroom and damaged ceiling tiles and light fixtures on the first floor below. "We think someone leaned against or sat on the sink, and it came off the wall and the break was well before any accessible shut-off valves," said high school facilities director, Anthony Feola. The ensuing water leak caused bathrooms on both floors to be flooded and ceiling tiles and lights below were damaged.

When students and staff arrived for school today (Thursday) they found yellow caution tape outside and in the building and still closed bathrooms. Workers from an emergency response cleaning company were cleaning and drying out the effected areas.

As of the close of school today, Thursday, the drying and repairs were still ongoing and an electrician was estimating the extent of the electrical damage in the ceiling. Officials thought that insurance may cover some of the damage. This comes as the high school is hoping to start some major repairs to floors and other areas at the close of school in June.
