Tri-County Cosmetology Raises $1,800 for Marathon Runner from Franklin

Posted

The Tri-County Regional Vocational Technical High School Cosmetology Program raised $1,800 for a Franklin runner who is participating in the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge 2015.

Students in the high school and postsecondary Cosmetology programs raised the funds for Franklin runner Kerry Cameron during a Cut-A-Thon and Style-A-Thon held in the school’s teaching salons on Friday, April 10. The event began immediately after school, with dozens of students visiting the salons to show support for their classmates. Faculty members and members of the community visited the salon throughout the afternoon to have their hair cut or styled in exchange for a $10 donation.

In addition to having their hair cut or styled, attendees purchased raffle tickets for the chance to win a basket full of Paul Mitchell hair care products generously donated by HairLines in Shrewsbury.

Cameron decided to participate in the 2015 Boston Marathon after her friend, Meredith Green, also of Franklin, won her fight against Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She is also running in honor of her aunt, MaryAnn Cosetta.

Tri-County Cosmetology Instructor Donna Flynn is friends with Green's family and wanted to help Cameron with her fundraising efforts. Flynn's colleagues and students volunteered to help organize a charity event.

While Cameron had to commit to raising $3,800 to join Team Dana-Farber, she set a fundraising goal of $8,000. Cameron reached her goal after Friday’s event.

All proceeds from Cameron’s fundraising efforts will go to the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
