Posted

Taunton, MA, April 30, 2018 – The Taunton Civic Chorus will present its spring concert – Lights, Camera, Music! on May 20th at 3 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 176 Somerset Ave., Taunton.

The concert is a celebration of classic Hollywood, featuring music from award-winning films such as Grease, The Wizard of Oz, Singing in the Rain, and Dirty Dancing.

The concert features a new Music Director Matt Haynes. Haynes was an assistant until January when he took over the top job. He graduates this spring from Rhode Island College where he studies vocal technique and music history.

Haynes has performed with several ensembles and groups, such as the Harmonic Move Show Choir, Triboro Youth Theatre, New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, and the Massachusetts All-State Choir at Symphony Hall in Boston. He has worked as the Bass Section Leader for both the Rhode Island College Chorus and the Junior Providence Singers from the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School. He has also served as the President of the Rhode Island College Chamber Singers.

Haynes is also the Music Director of the West Dighton Christian Church Choir.

Haynes recently finished working for the Walt Disney Company, where he was an Attractions Host at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.

Haynes describes the Taunton Civic Chorus as a family, and he said he is proud to be the musical leader of the group.

“As an aspiring music educator, my number one goal is to foster an environment of learning,” said Haynes. “With a challenging program this season, I believe the chorus has risen to the occasion, and has learned more about the art of music making.”

Haynes said the season is especially “near and dear to his heart” because it will focus on music in film.

“We are excited to share these incredible stories from some of the beloved films with our audience,” he said.

The Taunton Civic Chorus has been an important part of the cultural life of Taunton since 1959. In addition to presenting an annual spring and holiday concert, the TCC performs at local events such Raynham Tree Lighting, private functions, and local church services. Each year, TCC proudly awards a scholarship to a young person entering college who has been involved in the performing arts in high school.
