State House – Sen. Walter S. Felag’s (D-Dist. 10, Warren, Bristol, Tiverton) legislation (2018-S 2106) to name the recreation room in the new Rhode Island Veterans Home after Army Specialist Michael Andrade passed the Senate last week. The legislation now heads to the House Committee on Veterans Affairs.
“The sacrifices made by Specialist Andrade and those like him are shining examples of how to selflessly serve our country and protect our American way of life that we hold so dear,” said Senator Felag. “Anyone who now uses this recreation room will understand and value the ultimate price that is often paid when ensuring freedom and democracy for our country.”
Army Specialist Michael Andrade, a National Guardsman from Bristol County, died on Sept. 24, 2003 serving during Operation Iraqi Freedom when the Humvee he was in was struck by a fuel vehicle north of Baghdad. He was also volunteer firefighter with the Bristol Fire Department.
Rep. Kenneth A. Marshall (D-Dist. 68, Bristol, Warren) has sponsored the companion legislation (2018-H 7292) in the House of Representatives.
