Selectmen Allow Old Town Hall Usage

Posted

The Rehoboth Board of Selectmen authorized the use of the former town hall on Peck Street for storage for a few town departments. The Highway and Forestry departments will be allowed to keep their materials in the building.

Selectman Rob Johnson abstained from the vote.

Selectman Michael Deignan objected to having any personnel occupy the facility, which he said has been plagued by “poor air quality, spiders, snakes, mice, rats, asbestos, and mold.”

“We told the residents in this town that that town office building was a craphole,” Deignan said Monday. “My credibility is called into question if I turn around and I authorized use of that building to house offices for any town department.”

Town employees relocated to the current facility at 340 Anawan Street last December. The land and building was purchased for $995,000 after voters approved a warrant article at the May 2021 Town Meeting.
