Posted

Rev. Silvio DeNard, pastor of Sacred Heart parish, announced today that he has appointed Maurice “Mo” Guernon as principal of the K through Grade 8 Catholic school. Guernon replaces James Woodmansee who resigned last month. “I’m happy to have a dynamic leader in Mo Guernon to guide our school for the coming academic year. He is a professional with a breadth and depth of educational experience which will serve the entire Sacred Heart School community well,” Rev. DeNard remarked.

Guernon, a Rhode Island native, has been a teacher, administrator, and educational consultant to Catholic as well as public schools. As a consultant to the Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE), he trained district and school administrators throughout the state in the new evaluation protocol and facilitated implementation in seventeen Rhode Island schools.

A board member of St. Patrick Academy in Providence, Guernon has also conducted a variety professional development sessions on numerous topics to improve teaching and learning.  “I am grateful for Father DeNard’s confidence in me, and I look forward to working collaboratively with all members of the Sacred Heart School community to provide our students with excellent teaching while fostering a Catholic culture,” Guernon said.

As a free-lance writer, Guernon has been published in numerous newspapers and national magazines. He is currently writing a biography of Pope John Paul I.

Guernon earned his Master’s degree in Administration, Planning and Social Policy from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. He also did graduate work at Boston College and Providence College. He received his B.A. in history and English from the University of Rhode Island.
