What is a day like in the life of a state trooper? Students at St. Margaret School in Rumford learned that and more after Rhode Island State Trooper Michael Doherty, of Rumford, shared his experiences with students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. As part of a new professional development program aimed at introducing students to a variety of potential careers at an early age, Trooper Doherty gave students a glimpse into what it’s like to be a state trooper. In a highly interactive Q&A style presentation, Trooper Doherty talked about highlights of his 17-year career as a police officer, and the education and skills required for the position, as well as shared important tips on social media safety.
