Olivia Brum, 95, passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth Home on Friday May 12, 2017. Born in East Providence, she was a daughter of the late Theotonio and Olivia (Cardoso) Brum. Olivia was a graduate of East Providence High School, and ultimately a member of the East Providence High School Hall of Fame. She started her career at Emma Pendleton Bradley Home. After relocating to Boston in 1930, she began a 36-year career at Harvard’s School of Public Health and Medical School, the last twelve years working for Nobel Prize Winner, Dr. David Hubel. Olivia retired to the Cape in 1988 and became an enthusiastic quilter as a member of the Stitch N’Chatter sewing circle and Bayberry Quilters, producing many beautiful pieces, as well as staying active with a variety of activities. She is survived by her niece Joanne Bagley and her husband David and her nephew, Donald Avanzo and his wife Linda all of Warwick. She was the sister of the late Theotonio Brum, Jr. and the late Josephine Avanzo. Her funeral and visitation will begin Saturday May 20, 2017 at 9:30 AM in the Perry-McStay Funeral Home 2555 Pawtucket Avenue, East Providence followed by a funeral service at 11 AM. Burial will be in Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, Pawtucket. Please omit flowers.
