October is Head Start Awareness Month!

Posted

Head Start and Early Childhood Services, a division of East Bay Community Action Program, has been providing services to children and families in the East Bay since 1967. Nationally, Head Start has earned recognition and support for its success in early childhood education and development. EBCAP Head Start’s mission is to provide high quality comprehensive early childhood education services for eligible families and children from prenatal to age five. The program partners with parents to teach children the skills and abilities needed for success in school and life. Together with the community, it supports parents to keep children safe, healthy and well.

In celebration of Head Start Awareness Month EBCAP has invited Mayors, Town Managers and City Councilors to come tour its centers, meet its staff and read books to children. EBCAP Employees and Leadership were also invited to the centers as part of the organization’s Head Start Awareness Month activities.
Join EBCAP and The National Head Start Association www.nhsa.org in building knowledge of and support for Head Start’s whole-child and whole-community approach to supporting families on their paths to success. Things you can do to help recognize Head Start Awareness Month:

• Tell everyone about Head Start and its mission.
• Encourage families to apply for enrollment. Applications are being accepted for eligible pregnant women and families with children up to age 5.
• Think about a job in early childhood education/services. EBCAP provides a paid internship/career path to achieving a nationally recognized Child Development Credential (CDA).
• Donate to Dollar Per Child. Donations of just one dollar for every child in Head Start, can ensure that the voices of Head Start children and their families are heard by Members of Congress and the President. Go to www.nhsa.org/dollar-child-campaign to donate.
