M.J. Francis School Shut Down Tuesday & Wednesday Due to Frozen Water Pipes

Posted

The Myron J. Francis Elementary School on Bourne Avenue in the Rumford neighborhood had no school today, January 2, 2018 and will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday, January 3rd due to several frozen water pipes in the building.

As frozen pipes began to thaw in the school building today, more leaks were discovered and it is not possible to open school in time for tomorrow, Wednesday. Students and staff have been told not to report to school at Francis tomorrow.

The city's insurance company is at Francis checking on the situation and school officials are also on the scene. Francis School teachers spent today, Tuesday, at the school department offices at City Hall. Teachers were busy emailing homework and classroom assignments to students and parents.

The school was slated to open after the Christmas vacation but a sustained frigid temperature caused water pipes to freeze and then burst. It is not known when school at Francis can resume and some officials and parents are concerned with predictions of a possible substantial snow storm on Thursday of this week.

No other schools have been effected by the weather and all schools except Francis are open tomorrow, January 3rd.
